Great stuff Bill... Do you think the Flyer scout the QMJHL more thoroughly than the other CHL leagues? I feel as though the past few years they have focused their attention there.

Yup, Pierre wanted his cake, to be able to eat it and then have some of Mario's cake, too

but not without telling us where the cake was baked, by whom, where the baker went to culinary school, and who the baker's cakemates were at the time.

Thanks, Bill. So about half the picks are Canadians, and the other half is made of Americans, Europeans and Russians.

It would be interesting to look at the non-North American player success rate and whether or not there is any link between that success/failure and how many other players from said nation (or even neighboring nations) are on the squad.

I'm looking forward to the draft.

NHL's cap could well rise $6-million+ both this summer and next, hitting $76-million by 2015-16. Floor would be about $20-mil less.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 16m
Salary cap will exceed $70-million at that number... RT @ChrisBottaNHL: Source: NHL revenue approx $3.7 billion this season.

Not Bill, but I remember reading something about Simon Nolet, their QMJHL scout, saying that he has advised them to go off the board a bit and take players from Q teams such as Gagne, Giroux, and Morin. I'm just speculating but he might have something to do with them drafting a lot of guys from the QMJHL.

not a ton of gold for us in those drafts back to 2003. 2012 looks like it could be the largest haul from any single draft if those top guys pan out. 2013 would be next.

most of the players who have been able to make some kind of nhl career have been moved by the flyers. this is probably generally true of all nhl teams.

would be interesting to look at all the unselected draft picks the flyers have moved over the same time period in unloading bad contracts or as part of other deals to see who these players are and what has become of them.

it would also be interesting to look at a breakdown of the kings draft record during hextall's stint - just to get some shred of a clue as to what they were doing. not necessarily an indicator it would carry over here because he wasn't the head dog.

i agree the lockout was stupid - but the actual cap number isn't really the issue. it's about control, cost certainty, and a level skating surface.

The years following the Pronger trade are especially bleak. I hope Hextall can snag more picks for this year and next, especially for 2015. No 2nd or 3rd rounders next year.

Sure is. Killed those ridiculous 14 year contracts and got us out from the Bryzgalov mess.

Edzo: Williams hooked Ryan McDonagh to the ice just moments before and the refs ignored it. The Rangers got hosed here!

Bill,

Do you think there would be any interest in a guy like Marchand. i read a lot about him being possibly moved by the Bruins. Not sure if there is a deal but seems like a good fit in the way they saw Downie fitting in on the line with Couturier and Read.
